Münster, a ‘Day for Religious’ in times of the Amazon Synod
This year's Day for Religious in the diocese of Münster took place on 5 October and was put under the motto "baptized and sent – the Church of Christ (is) missionary in the world".
Bishop Johannes Bahlmann from Bidos/Paro, Brazil, on his way to Rome for the Amazon Synod, was invited to speak to the Religious and so he made a short stopover in Münster. For more than an hour, he enthusiastically and impressively reported about his daily work, the current situation in his diocese and the expectations they have on the Synod, which began on 6 October.
According to Bahlmann, new ways and forms for Christian life are necessary in order to fulfil the Mission (tasks) in the Amazon area. This is precisely what the Amazon Synod is to discuss: "We must think about how we can together renew the Church and guarantee the handover of faith."
In the afternoon, the participating religious had the opportunity to share their ideas in workshops and to deepen various topics. This was also attended by guests from North-East India, who had come to Münster for the nationwide opening of the World Mission Month.
At the end of the meeting Bishop Dr. Felix Genn, Bishop of the diocese of Münster, celebrated the Eucharist together with the Religious in the chapel of the Franciscan Nuns’ Mother House.
